Last week, when visiting my Mum with the children, I knew I wanted to look at her home through different eyes. I know her house and decoration very well, but sometimes, when you see something so often, you stop actually seeing it for what it is. That old adage of ‘the sum of the parts is greater than the whole’ could possibly apply here to a degree.
But with that in mind, I stopped and took notice of the things around me, then started snapping pictures on my mobile phone. Bedding, linen, wallpaper, ornaments, lamps. All those sorts of things.
And one of the things that caught my eye was a cupboard in their summer house. It’s full of lovely things to look at, big squishy chairs etc, but the cupboard grabbed my attention.
You can see why!
So, I took the cupboard as quite literal inspiration, and created a paneled card using Naturals White Cardstock for the card, and the paneling, then I stamped a Bermuda Bay butterfly from Papillon Pot Pourri Stamp Set, and another in Elegant Eggplant. And the sentiment was taken from the Bring on the Cake stamp set. I punched it with the Word Window Punch and a second one, then sponged the edges of both and offset layered them with dimensionals.
I love how this has turned out, and love how Mum and Dad’s home and garden have inspired me. Taking the opportunity to look at my surroundings through different eyes paid off.
Do you take inspiration from the things around you?
