Stampin’ Up! UK Around the World Stampin’ Up! Challenge Number 5
I think this was possibly my most challenging challenge (!) as being part of the Design Team for the Around The World Stampin’ Up! Challenge Blog, and while I went back and forth for quite a few days and stressed a bit about the lack of Vintage-type stamps, and that I do struggle with Vintage (it’s so not my style), I decided that actually, I am probably not alone in this, and decided to do my own play on what is an Old Christmas, the theme for this week.
I was born in the mid 70s (1974 to be precise!), and for me, my Old Christmases were made up of a collection of memories; retro baubles in a dozen different shiny designs, trips to the local fayres and markets to see what swags and boughs we could make. Hanging misletoe and nagging Mum to put the decorations up as early as possible. It was also that era when fizzy pop was a rare treat, and straws were terribly expensive, so they too were a rare treat.
To me, those wonderful memories of drinking fizzy pop and lemonade from a glass bottle with a couple of straws on Christmas Even while visiting an old family friend are my memories of Old Christmas. While I love the imagery of the Victoriana Christmas, it was never something I personally experienced, so my take on the challenge theme of Old Christmas is a nod to my own Old Christmases of nearly 40 years ago.
And for those others of you who too remember Christmas in the 70s and 80s, I could only hang a bauble around the neck of the bottle that was iconic with that era.
