Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator Pootles – Colour Clash Butterflies and Flowers
I don’t know if you’re anything like me, but I love to see colours that ought to clash work well together.
I’ve no idea what made me pull these 3 colours out, but I love the end result!
To give you an idea of how I work when I’m using colours as my starting point, I play almost roulette with my ink pad colour caddy…. Yes, I spin it and grab the first one that comes to hand! After that I’m a bit more selective, but I take the first one that I grabbed (in this case the Real Red) and then hold it up to the colours of the other pads as I slowly rotate it. Sometimes it can take a fair few rotations before something clicks, but today’s card was a pretty quick pairing when I had the red next to the blues and Lost Lagoon was the one that stood out most of all for me!
I know, so scientific huh….
I wanted a neutral, but rather than go the other end down to the soft browns, I went for Chocolate Chip to make the butterflies and flowers really stand out. And of course, there’s no stamping going on, but using the ink pads are an easy way to see how colours look together before yanking out loads of cardstock from my rack…
I know, the colours make no sense as far as nature is concerned, but as far as I’m concerned, there are no rules in crafting….
So with the Elegant and Bitty Butterfly punches in full flight (ha!) and then Petite Petals and Itty Bitty Accents coming out to play, I have a total colour clash that seems to work!
Finally I have 3 layers of cardstock rather than just one. It’s all about elevation for me today!
What do you think? Anyone else play colour caddy roulette??

Hi Sam what a great card love the colour you do amazing things. I don’t have the caddy yet on my wish list. TFS.
I love the lay-out. It reminds me of an Esscher art piece. Like the one in which lizards gradually change into birds (or maybe it is a Dutch thing, because he was a famous dutch artists).
The colour combination reminds me of one of my favorite ones pairing real red with pool party
Love this card and the colours so well chosen.( sorry for my english!). Have a good day
Let’s call it crafter’s roulette – the great thing is, the crafter wins every game.

Love this colour combo, great card xx
Very stunning! I sometimes will try a color combo and then change my mind and back out. “Everything matches”……I get into that box and get stuck! I love what you’ve done here and it challenges me to be a little more risky. I will very much be casing your card for one in the future!! Thanks, Sam!
Another lovely CAS card and lovely colours… thank you!
Love how you use colors so beautifully. Everything you touch seems to spring into something wonderful! thanks for sharing your many talents.
Ohhhh this is sooo striking! I of course LOVE the color combo 😉

Hard to believe but the colours do go well together
…and those pearls!!!!!! Love it!
Fun idea! Love it!
Sam, this reminds me of a song that Harry Chapin sang years ago…
“there are so many colours in the rainbow, so many colours in the morning sun, so many colours in the flowers and I see every one”. Not everything has to be correct (only according to some). Great inspiration as always. Thank you.
Elegant and rich colors. Lovely!
So beautiful together. It actually made me say, “Ahhhhhh!”
