#1 Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator Pootles – Small But Awesome Pencil Desktop Holder Tutorial
I am absolutely delighted and so happy to be bringing this project to you today.
I had a crafting day last week but nothing could get me going. It wasn’t a case of no motivation, but more a case of too many ideas for me to do all at once. So I sort of didn’t know where to start and instead just decided to play with a couple of box sizes to see if they would go together to make a stationery holder. Then I made more and more and fiddled around with measurements to get all 5 to fit and this is the end result!
The footprint of the holder is 4-5/8″ x 5-1/8″ (13.3 x 11.7cm) so a nice small size in terms of taking up desk space, but really good in just how much it holds.
During the video I show the process of making just one box, but all 5 are built the same way. And of course, I show the outer tray too as that’s created differently.
The boxes are all reinforced around the top edge, so once you’ve made this, there’s no reason for it to warp or buckle at all. It IS a tight fit, and it’s designed that way – no one wants wobbly pen holders!
Finally, I do show on screen the huge number of measurements that I have written down because yes, I do work in both Metric and Imperial for you, so while I have checked and double checked that I’ve written them onto here correctly, I am only human, and one small slip of a finger within a sea of numbers (stares at 106 different individual score/cut lines) can make a difference. So please do test this on inexpensive paper first.

Wow Sam, you’ve been doing lots of maths – very appropriate given that we have just finished the KS2 sats last week! This is just what i need as in the nxt few months we are creating a joint study/craft room for hubby and me and i need some of these. I love it, you are so clever. Thank you. X
Fabulous idea Sam, you are so clever, TFS
Just WOW, Sam!! x
Wooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwww Sam!!! When I teach a project, the girls say: “Is it in centimeters or inches????” Here we work with centimeters but I feel more comfortable with inches. It is a great project!!
A wow carn’t to make these lovely boxes ,Thanks Sam you are a genius master crafter
Wowzier! This is so cool. Thank you for sharing.
Love this!! I still have the organizer boxes you made a few years ago, the ones with the slanted tops. Still am using them, so this would be a perfect addition, thanks so much!!
Oh my goodness!! I can’t wait to try this set!! Thanks so much for sharing!!
WOW Sam, that is absolutely beautiful. Love it.
Thank you for sharing the directions! What a beautiful and useful project!
MARVELOUS! Love making your boxes. You have out done yourself.
Oh MY! This is amazing! I want to make it right away, unfortunately I’ll have to wait a bit to do that. But I WILL be making one of these sets. Wouldn’t this make a lovely little gift for some of my crafty friends, or even someone who has a desk. Love it. Thanks for another wonderful video and project.
Hi! This is so amazing! I am so glad that you said to try it out first on cheaper paper. I did find that the measurements for the Mid Green and Tall Green are a bit off. Cardstock should be 8.5×8 (inches) for the Tall one and 8.5×5.5 (inches) for the Mid one. It still worked with he original measurements, but the tabs we’re only 1/4 inch and the reinforced edge on the mid green was only 1/4 inch as well. Hope this helps!!!
I made this little desk organizer box tonight on my posts it underneath your YouTube channel the only thing that I saw that was wrong and maybe you fixed it by now is that the medium green box you had it down as 8 and 1/4 by 5 and 1/4 and it should be 8 and 1/2 by 5 and 1/2 I wish there was a place that I could attach a photo to share with you thanks for sharing
LOVE THIS TUTORIAL AND CANNOT WAIT TO MAKE ! THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR SHARING & YOUR TUTORIALS ARE ALWAYS SO GREAT!
This is amazing, so many peeps including me have had a try at making these boxes, I use mine for holding all my glues, yes I have several different kinds in lots of shapes and sizes, thank you xx
Thank you Sam for sharing such an awesome idea with us! I’ve tried this set three times with cheaper paper (Thank goodness you gave us hat tip). Now, from reading your comments, I know what to do to fix the problem I was having. Thank you Sam, and everyone who replied to Sam blog. You are ALL lifesavers!
Hi Sam,
Great product. I will definitely do it.
Can you recommend a paper craft shop in London?
I’m visiting from Israel and would love to purchase the products you are working with.
Thank you
You are so kind and generous to share this awesome project! You made my day!!!!!
Love the project. But when you try to print the project out page 3 parts of the information over writes itself. Can that be fixed? I hope so. If it can will you let me know?
Love this!
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I love it! I just became a demonstrator and made a commitment to myself to make at least one card a week. My work area was getting so messy because I always have my stuff out now ready to go. This cute little container will be so much better! I used the Paper Blooms DSP from this last SAB. I love it so much!!!
Thank you so much. Such a wonderful and pretty container.
Can’t wait to make it.
Thank you very much for posting this. This was even better than what I was looking for. I wanted something to put near my new Cricut machine to hold tools and pens, and this is absolutely perfect and so easy to make. I might have to just make even more for other places in my house.
