#1 Stampin’ Up! Demonstrator Pootles – Pootles Advent Countdown 2018 #7 Hanging Orb Christmas Decoration
Oh I am so excited to bring you today’s Advent Countdown Project!
I was literally playing with cardstock with the hopes of a sort of 4 sided reverse pillow box and I think I got it about right! There were a few prototypes before getting to this one, but I love how it ended up and I have no problem with the wasted cardstock. I make the mistakes so you don’t have to!
And while I adore the red one (which I made first) it was a little tricky to tie the ribbon around it as the sides do want to keep opening, but the hanging version is just as lovely. Unless, like on the video, you don’t tie your knot big enough and it pops out. Seriously, me making mistakes and having bloopers saves you!
I wanted to keep the decoration minimal for a couple of reasons. The red one needed nothing extra other than that lush silver edged ribbon. And then the hanging ones, I felt were great for a tree with the pattern doing the work. I have a minimalist tree (well, 4 actually!) in my house, and tend to err away from lots of colour, and that was my thinking.
But of course, now I’ve given you the instructions, you can do as you want with yours. And I’d love to see what you come up with.
S xx

Oh such a clever project!! Part of my business is making boxes and love your channel as it gives me ideas for tweaking my staples! This is really amazing ..most customers ask me for table favours for christenings, important birthdays and weddings and this would be amazing for Christmas and gold and silver weddings.. so love the outcome when you sit and play with cardstock !!
Keep playing……..love this box Sam, very different.
Very cute box! Wonder if you could put a shower bomb inside? Love it!
Very cute, love the shape.
I just played with this design and think I’m going to use if for favors at the Christmas Brunch I do for my customers. For the diameter and stiffness of the ribbon to be less of an issue, I used crochet thread and buttons for the top closure. I punched a small hole in the center of each 1” square tab at the top. I tied the thread to a shank button and placed inside the container. I threaded both ends
through the holes in the tabs and pulled taut to line them up. To finish, I threaded each end through a hole of a 2 hole button and tied into either a knot (for an ornament) or a bow(for placing a treat inside). I was playing with computer paper. I might cut some 1” squares to adhere to the tabs before punching if I thought some reinforcement might be needed. Some of the larger scale DSP would be perfect for these! Thanks for sharing:)
Absolutely brilliant Sam!! You amaze me over and over. Headed to my craft desk at speed!
OMGoodness! This is so lovely! I’ve never heard of Christmas tree gifts, but what a great idea! They would be lovely for each place setting at my Christmas table too. I love to have a little gift at the table and these would be great to put something little into. Thanks for this wonderful project and video!
Hi Sam,
I just made the cardstock ones as gifts for my team and I love them! I’m sure they will too. Happily, I had no problems tying the ribbon around mine to keep it it all closed, worked great for me 🙂 Thanks for as another great design
