#1 Stampin’ Up! UK Demonstrator Pootles – Creating Patterned Paper with Fancy Phrases.
I love to create my own patterned paper and backgrounds for cards, and this time around I’ve chosen the wonderful Fancy Phrases stamp set.
I’ve used the large image a few times, but this is the first time I’ve used only the smaller sprig on a project.
It looks great with the 3 colours I’ve used – pacific point, gorgeous grape and magenta madness, but I think it would look lovely with any trio of colours.
I have made the colours bleed with my ever faithful Wink of Stella, but you could equally leave it as the original stamped colour.
So, who else makes their own stamped patterned paper?

In the absence of any wrapping paper for a birthday gift, I recently used some of the brown crumpled packaging paper from delivery boxes…used by a certain online company…. which I first ironed( felt like Jeeves, ironing the morning newspaper!) and then stamped all over in black ink, with Dandelion Wishes. I’d made a birthday card using the same stamp set, and the recipient was really thrilled with the matching paper……seemingly more so than the card! She used the same paper, to wrap MY birthday gift, a few weeks later
We already have a little ongoing recycling game with some gold satin ribbon which has been journeying back and forth between our two households for at least 10 years, adorning various gifts to each other. We’ve also been recycling wrapping paper in the same way, wherever possible…. in my case incorporating scraps too small for wrapping, into cards, and it’s become an amusing little addition to the gift giving.
My last two birthday gifts to her have been sets of greetings cards for various occasions…with matching gift tags.., and a box of notecards. I’ve made fancy decorated boxes for them,( basics learned from you) and they are really well received. I’ve been using your box designs for several years now, and the tall, fancy topped 5,6 and 8 sided ones are perfect for pillar candles and always well loved, then gifted on, containing something else….which I love!
One year,my daughter-in-law opened her gift on Christmas morning, then regifted the box to her sister, with new contents, later the same day, which amused me no end! I also regularly make a version of your easy triangular treat box which folds in from the sides and ties closed at the top with a ribbon bow. Your original one was in a fabulous red and white stripe. I adapt the size so its a bit taller, and I use green cardstock which I then silver or gold heat emboss with a Christmas tree from the Lovely as a tree stamp set. Perfect for holding a few chocolate treats. Everyone loves them, they’re so adorable….I actually have trouble parting with them. In fact, I still have one in my pantry from last year. Minus contents of course So thank you Sam, for your easy to follow designs, which all work so well, and have delighted literally dozens of recipients since I have been following your blog, and been a pleasure to make. You work very hard, and It’s easy to see why you you have become a top demonstrator worldwide.
Have you ever just used text all over for a background? I used the cat punch and traced all around it for a cat lover she loved it. I have a pile of boxes I pick from for various gifts!
